Comparison questions like "how is this different from n8n Cloud" and "what does a year cost" are covered in full on the n8n product page and in self-hosted vs Cloud. This article is about what you run into while workflows are actually running.
Resources and performance
Q: My workflow fails when processing large amounts of data. Why?
The most common cause is hitting the memory limit. RoamerHost's n8n plans have a hard memory limit with no swap — when a workflow loads tens of thousands of records into memory at once and then transforms them, the process is terminated outright rather than grinding through.
The fix is to process in batches: use n8n's Split In Batches node to cut the data into small chunks and handle one chunk before fetching the next. That doesn't only solve the memory problem; it also makes it easier to resume from where a failed workflow stopped.
Q: Is there a limit on executions?
No. This is one of the biggest differences between self-hosted and n8n Cloud — Cloud tiers are priced by workflow executions, while the self-hosted version has no such concept. How much your instance can run depends on CPU and memory, not on how many times it has run. A monitoring workflow triggered every minute and a report workflow that runs once a day cost exactly the same.
Webhooks and scheduling
Q: Does my webhook URL change after I restart the instance?
No. Webhook URLs are built on your instance's subdomain, and restarting or stopping and starting again doesn't change them, so the settings you've configured in third-party services don't need resetting.
What does change them is a format and rebuild — that wipes the data inside the container, including the workflows themselves. After a rebuild you have to import your workflows again and re-verify the webhook paths.
Q: My scheduled workflow isn't running on time.
First confirm the instance is in the running state. n8n's scheduler runs as a process inside the instance, so when the instance is stopped (manually, or suspended after a subscription expires), schedules don't fire. You can see the instance's current state in the dashboard.
Nodes and credentials
Q: Can I install community nodes?
Yes. The self-hosted version is fully open to community nodes, which is one of its advantages over Cloud. If you need to connect to a Taiwan-local service or a more obscure SaaS product, a community node is usually the way.
Q: Will the community nodes I installed disappear after a format and rebuild?
Yes. A format and rebuild recreates the container from a clean image, so community nodes and workflows both disappear. Before rebuilding, use n8n's built-in export to save your workflows as JSON backups, and write down which community nodes you had installed.
Q: Where are my credentials (API keys for each service) stored?
Inside your own n8n instance; they are not stored centrally in the platform's database. This is one of the core values of self-hosting — credentials and the data flowing through your workflows stay in your own environment.
Sources and further reading
n8n's nodes and pricing change frequently. These are the primary sources to check against:
- n8n official documentation
- n8n official pricing — cloud tiers and quotas
- n8n source code and release notes — the authority on licensing terms
Maintenance and advanced use
Q: Will execution logs fill up my disk?
They do accumulate. The input and output data of every execution is saved, and the more often workflows run, the faster it piles up, so set a retention period and let the system clean up automatically. See execution data growth for how it accumulates and how to configure it.
Q: Who handles n8n version updates?
We maintain the hosted environment and follow the official stable releases. You never have to touch the server, run upgrade commands, or worry about a failed upgrade breaking your environment.
Q: Can I write code inside a workflow?
Yes. The built-in Code node supports JavaScript and Python, so data transformations or conditional logic you can't assemble from nodes take a few lines of code instead of a separate service stood up for one small need.
Q: What if I forget my n8n login password?
Contact support (LINE or email) for a reset. It takes a few minutes, and your workflow data is unaffected.
