What Is n8n?
n8n is an open-source workflow automation platform that hands off the repetitive, manual steps in your process to a machine. Think of it as a digital production line: when something happens — an email arrives, someone submits a form, the clock hits 2 a.m. — n8n follows the flow you drew in advance, chaining different apps together step by step to finish the job for you.
n8n's defining feature is its visual drag-and-drop editor. You don't need to write code; you just drop "nodes" onto a canvas and connect them with lines to build a complete automation. Each node is one action — "read new rows from Google Sheets," "send a Slack message," "create a page in Notion."
In short: n8n is an automation engine you can see, drag around, and use without writing code — so every repetitive chore goes to the machine.
What Can n8n Do? 400+ App Integrations
n8n ships with more than 400 app integrations, covering the vast majority of the services you use day to day. Here are the common categories:
- Messaging and notifications: Slack, Telegram, LINE, Gmail, Discord
- Documents and spreadsheets: Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Google Drive
- E-commerce and payments: Stripe, WooCommerce, Shopify
- Marketing and CRM: HubSpot, Mailchimp
- Developer tools: GitHub, GitLab, HTTP Request (which connects to any service with an API)
Combine these nodes and you can build all kinds of practical scenarios:
- Someone fills in a form on your site → it's saved to Google Sheets automatically → you get a LINE notification at the same time
- Stripe receives a payment → an order record is created in Notion → a thank-you email goes out
- Every morning at 9 → exchange rates or the weather are fetched → formatted into a message and posted to a Slack channel
- Gmail receives a message with a specific subject → the attachment is downloaded to Google Drive and filed away
Who Is n8n For?
If any part of your work is repetitive, predictable, and spread across several tools, n8n can help. It's an especially good fit for:
| Who | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Solo professionals / freelancers | Sorting customer inquiries, invoice notifications, scheduling social posts |
| Small teams / startups | Wiring CRM, payments, and chat together to stop syncing data by hand |
| E-commerce sellers | Order notifications, inventory sync, shipping reminders |
| Marketers | Lead capture, email marketing, rolled-up reporting |
| Engineers / IT | Custom integrations built with webhooks and code nodes |
In other words, you don't have to be an engineer to use it — but if you can write a little code, n8n gives you room for custom logic too. Both kinds of user are covered.
n8n vs. n8n Cloud vs. Zapier: What's the Difference?
There's no shortage of automation tools out there, so here's how n8n compares to the usual alternatives:
| Comparison | n8n on RoamerHost | n8n Cloud (official SaaS) | Zapier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executions | Your own instance, no execution cap | Metered per plan, with a cap | Metered per plan, with a cap |
| Custom code | Supported (Code node) | Supported | More limited |
| Integrations | 400+ apps plus community nodes | 400+ apps | Thousands, but shallower |
| Self-hosting required? | No — one click and it's live | No | No |
Unlike n8n Cloud's metered execution limits, on RoamerHost you get a completely separate n8n instance: run your workflows as often as you like without getting cut off for exceeding an execution quota. Compared with Zapier, n8n is more flexible, lets you write custom code, and keeps long-term costs far more predictable.
Why Run n8n on RoamerHost
n8n is open source, but self-hosting it means dealing with servers, Docker, SSL certificates, domains, updates, and maintenance. RoamerHost handles all of that so you can focus on designing workflows:
- One-click install, live in 60 seconds: no server to set up, no Docker to install — just one click in the dashboard.
- Isolated container, fully separated: every service runs in its own Docker container, which keeps it secure and stable.
- Automatic SSL and a dedicated subdomain: a Let's Encrypt certificate is issued automatically and you get your own
*.roamerhost.comaddress, so webhooks have a publicly reachable HTTPS URL from day one. - 24/7 uptime with auto-restart: schedules and webhooks stand by around the clock, and the instance restarts itself if something goes wrong.
- Persistent data that doesn't disappear: workflows, credentials, and execution history live on a dedicated persistent volume and survive container restarts.
Plans and Pricing
The RoamerHost n8n Standard plan is NT$5,988 billed yearly (avg. NT$499/mo) and includes:
- 400+ app integrations
- A public webhook URL (HTTPS)
- Automatic SSL plus a dedicated subdomain
- 24/7 uptime and auto-restart
Payment is a recurring credit card charge through NewebPay, billed once a year. You can cancel renewal from the dashboard anytime — service continues until the end of the current period (the current year), and you are not charged again. There is no cancellation fee; the period you have already paid for is not refunded or prorated. See Pricing for the full details.
How to Get Started
Three steps and your own n8n is up:
- Go to the Pricing page, pick "n8n Standard," and complete the subscription payment.
- Your n8n instance is deployed automatically in an isolated container — about 60 seconds — and assigned a dedicated subdomain with SSL.
- Sign in to the dashboard, open n8n, and start building your first workflow.

FAQ
Q: How is this different from the official n8n Cloud?
Mainly the billing model and where your data sits. Cloud caps executions by plan; hosting on your own instance means you pay per instance and executions aren't metered separately. Your data also stays in your own environment. Full comparison in Self-Hosted vs. Cloud.
Q: Are executions really unlimited?
There's no per-execution billing. What you do need to watch is resources — high-frequency, high-volume workflows consume CPU and memory. Also, n8n saves a full record of every execution by default, which eats disk space and slows down the editor over time. You'll want to set a retention limit; see Execution Data Growth.
Q: Can I install community nodes?
Yes. That's one of the main benefits of hosting on your own instance — the official cloud plans are restricted here.
Q: I'm on Zapier now. Is migrating a hassle?
You do have to rebuild the workflows, but the real point is not to copy them over as-is. Your Zapier designs were shaped by per-step billing, and once you move, every compromise you made to save money can go. The recommended order of work is in Migrating from Zapier to n8n.
Q: Will my webhook URL change?
Every instance gets its own subdomain and automatic SSL, so the URL is fixed. That matters for services like LINE and Stripe that need a permanent callback URL — with the free tier of a tunneling tool, the URL changes on every restart.
Q: Do I need to know how to code?
Basic workflows are pure drag-and-drop. But to be honest: when a service you need has no ready-made node, you'll have to read its API docs and wire it up yourself with HTTP Request. That isn't programming, exactly, but it does take some technical patience.
