In late October, Nous Research revamped the official Hermes Agent subscriptions. Every new paid plan now comes with an always-on cloud agent (Hermes Cloud), and usage is no longer one monthly block of credits: daily, weekly and monthly limits now apply together. Hermes Agent itself is still MIT-licensed and free to self-host. What changed is the part you pay Nous for, its models and its cloud. If you already subscribe, you have a decision to make. If you are still working out how to keep Hermes running around the clock, you now have one more option to compare.
In practice: if your usage is fairly even, the new system is mostly a different way of counting. If you tend to run big batches on a few days, the daily and weekly caps are more likely to stop you partway through. And if you want to talk to your agent on LINE, pay in TWD with a company invoice and not look after a server, take a look at managed Hermes Agent hosting from RoamerHost, run by a team in Taiwan. We explain how its model costs work below.
What Nous changed
The announcement on Nous Research's official X account is short: Hermes Agent subscriptions have been revamped, every new plan includes a cloud agent out of the box, and usage has daily and weekly limits instead of one monthly block of credits. Existing subscribers can switch to the new plans at any time in Nous Portal. AlphaSignal's coverage makes the same points: always-on Hermes Cloud is bundled into every paid tier, and daily and weekly caps replace the monthly credit pool.
The Nous Portal plans page currently lists four tiers: Free at $0, limited to free models; Plus at US$20 a month; Super at US$100 a month; and Ultra at US$200 a month. The official pages we checked do not list exact daily or weekly amounts for each tier, only that Super includes substantially more usage than Plus, and Ultra more again. The included cloud agent size depends on the plan, and larger sizes or additional agents are paid from credits. Different Nous pages describe the included agent specs differently, so we have left those numbers out. Check Nous Portal at the time you subscribe.
How the new limits work
According to Nous, every plan can use every model, and your choice of model and the size of your tasks decide how quickly you use your allowance. Daily and weekly limits sit alongside a monthly allowance. The daily window resets 24 hours after you first use it and the weekly window after seven days; the monthly allowance and the large-model allowance reset with your billing period. The limits apply together, so if you have hit your weekly or monthly limit, the daily reset will not give you more included usage.
More expensive models also have their own monthly limit, and which models count depends on your plan. If you reach it, you can keep using other models within your remaining allowance. Once included usage runs out, Nous gives you three options: switch to a free model, wait for a reset, or turn on "Keep going on credits" to keep using paid models with pay-as-you-go credits. Note that Nous says API-key requests and additional cloud agents are paid from pay-as-you-go credits. If you self-host Hermes Agent and connect it to Nous models with an API key, that usage does not come out of your subscription allowance.
Nous Portal shows how much you have used and when each limit resets. Before the change you could spend a month's credits in a few days. Now there is a ceiling every day and every week, so if your usage is uneven, look at a week or two of history before deciding.
What Hermes Cloud is and how it bills
Hermes Cloud is Nous Research's own hosting. Its official page says it runs your Hermes Agent on a dedicated cloud instance that stays on, with its own workspace and dashboard; you pick a size and deploy. Billing is charged once a day (UTC), after the fact, from your Nous credits: compute is metered by the second of uptime, plus storage. You need at least US$2 in credits or an active subscription to deploy. Model inference and tool usage are billed separately, on top of the instance.
After the revamp, each new paid plan includes one cloud agent. Going beyond the included size, or running a second agent, is still paid from credits based on usage.
Who should pay attention, and what to do now
If you are on an older plan: the announcement says you can switch to a new plan at any time and does not mention an end date for the old ones. Nous says that when you switch, unused subscription credits carry over as pay-as-you-go credits, up to one month of your current plan's credits, and a switch to a plan at the same price takes effect immediately with nothing to pay that day. Before switching, check in Nous Portal whether your past usage was spread out or concentrated on a few days. If it was concentrated, decide in advance what you will do when you hit the daily limit: drop to a free model, wait for the reset, or keep going on credits.
If you self-host and use Nous models: when your Hermes Agent reaches Nous models through an API key, the plans page says those requests come out of credits, not the subscription allowance. The number to watch is your credit balance, not the daily and weekly caps.
If you are still choosing how to run Hermes Agent: there are now three paths. Run it yourself on a machine that stays on, subscribe to a Nous paid plan and use the included cloud agent, or hand it to a managed host. Here they are side by side.
Self-hosting, a Nous subscription or managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you the most freedom, but the server, updates, domain, SSL and the LINE webhook are all yours to handle. Hermes Agent also moves fast: on October 21 and 22 alone it shipped two releases, 0.22.3 and 0.22.5, and each one means swapping in the new version yourself.
A Nous paid subscription bundles model usage with one cloud agent, is priced in US dollars, and is governed by daily, weekly and monthly limits, with credits for anything beyond them.
RoamerHost is an AI services platform run by a team in Taiwan. Our Hermes Agent hosting gives every member an isolated container with a web dashboard, their own subdomain and SSL, and a LINE webhook that is already wired up. It is live about 60 seconds after payment. Pro is NT$599/mo: add your own model API key in the dashboard (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter and more) and pay the provider directly. Advanced is NT$1,599/mo with the Roamer AI model built in, so there is no API key to sign up for; usage counts toward your daily Roamer AI allowance, which resets at 00:00 Taipei time. Both plans include 10 GB of storage, are billed monthly with no contract, are priced in TWD with company invoices available, and come with support in Traditional Chinese.
| Compared | Self-hosting | Nous paid subscription | RoamerHost managed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Your own VPS or computer | A Nous cloud instance | Your own isolated container |
| Monthly cost | Whatever your server costs | From US$20/mo (Plus) | Pro NT$599/mo, Advanced NT$1,599/mo |
| Model usage | Your own API key, pay as you go | Daily, weekly and monthly limits, credits beyond that | Pro: your own API key. Advanced: counts toward the daily Roamer AI allowance |
| What you look after | Server, updates, SSL, LINE webhook | Choosing a plan, watching usage and credits | Nothing to set up, LINE webhook already wired |
How to choose
If you are in Taiwan, talk to customers or colleagues on LINE, want to pay in TWD with a company invoice and would rather not look after a server or updates, choose RoamerHost's managed Hermes Agent. If you already have a model API key you like, Pro at NT$599/mo is enough. If you would rather not sign up for an API key and want to start chatting as soon as it is live, choose Advanced at NT$1,599/mo. The difference is laid out in Hermes Agent hosting plans and pricing. If you know servers well and want control over every setting, self-hosting is still the most flexible route.
FAQ
Do I have to pay for Hermes Agent now?
No. The software is still MIT-licensed and free to download and self-host. This revamp covers Nous Research's own model and cloud subscriptions, not the open-source license.
How much are the daily and weekly limits?
The official pages we checked do not list exact figures per tier, only that Super includes substantially more than Plus, and Ultra more again. Once subscribed, Nous Portal shows how much you have used and when each limit resets.
I'm on an older plan. Do I have to switch?
The announcement says subscribers can switch to the new plans at any time and does not give an end date for the old plans. When you switch, unused subscription credits carry over as pay-as-you-go credits, up to one month of your current plan's credits.
Does this affect Hermes Agent on RoamerHost?
RoamerHost hosting is a monthly fee in TWD paid to us, separate from any Nous subscription, so this change does not touch your monthly fee. On Pro, model costs go straight to whichever provider's API key you add. On Advanced, the built-in Roamer AI model counts toward your daily Roamer AI allowance, which resets at 00:00 Taipei time.
