After subscribing to Stock Helper, many people drop a few stock codes into the dashboard and call it done. But the P&L your morning briefing calculates every day, and the intraday check on whether you've hit your stop-loss, depend entirely on the numbers you enter. Get your cost slightly wrong and the P&L you see every day is wrong. Write only "bullish" on your watchlist, and the briefing has nothing to remind you of.

This guide walks through the dashboard fields in order and explains why filling in each one this way helps your wallet. At the end, you'll link Telegram and confirm that your first morning briefing arrives.

30-Second Overview

ItemKey points
Before you startSubscription completed, Telegram installed on your phone, broker app open to check your costs; right after you subscribe, your dedicated bot takes about 1 business day to set up
The most important fieldAverage cost: P&L, the news check at a 15% unrealized loss, and stop-loss alerts all depend on it

Before You Start: Pick the 3 to 5 Stocks You Care About Most

Your holdings list and watchlist each take up to 10 stocks, but for the first week we recommend starting with the 3 to 5 you care about most. Each holding takes one line in the briefing; keep the list short and you'll actually read it all every day. If it proves useful after a week, add more gradually.

All settings live in the RoamerHost dashboard: sign in and open Stock Helper. At the top of the page, "Setup progress" has three steps: 1. Your own bot, 2. Telegram linked, and 3. Holdings set up. Right after you subscribe, step 1 may show "Being set up (about 1 business day)." Once the bot is ready, a Telegram linking section appears in the dashboard and you'll also get an email. In the meantime, you can fill in your holdings settings below.

The first field in the settings form is "What should I call you?", meaning what you'd like the AI to call you. Fill it in however you like.

Holdings List: Why Your Average Cost Must Be Accurate

For each holding, enter the stock code, name, number of shares, and average cost. Shares are counted individually: one lot is 1,000 shares, and for odd lots enter the actual number of shares.

Average cost is the most important field in your entire setup, because three things depend on it directly:

  1. P&L in the morning briefing: each holding gets one line showing the previous session's close, the % change, and your P&L %. P&L is always calculated by code using the cost you entered, never estimated.
  2. The news check at a 15% unrealized loss: the briefing's news section only looks up headlines for two kinds of holdings: those that moved more than 3% in the previous session, and those with an unrealized loss of more than 15%. Enter the wrong cost and that line gets crossed too early or too late.
  3. Intraday stop-loss alerts: alerts include your cost and current unrealized loss %, along with a judgment on whether your original stop-loss plan has been reached.

An example (illustrative): your actual cost is 102, but you carelessly enter 98. One day the stock closes at 86. Your real unrealized loss is -15.7%, which should trigger a news check, but the briefing thinks you're only down -12.2%, so it won't look into what happened. Or the other way around: with a cost of 207 and a close of 205, the correct P&L is -0.97%; enter 210 instead and the briefing shows -2.38% every day. You use these numbers to decide whether to add or cut, so even a small error carries into every decision.

A few tips for filling it in:

  • Enter the original cost you actually paid; you can check it against the average cost in your broker app.
  • Don't subtract dividends you've received. If a reply also shows a return including dividends, it lists the two numbers separately.
  • You don't need to come back here after adding to or trimming a position. Just say so in Telegram; the last section covers this.

Watchlist: Write the Reason for Watching as a Price or Condition

The watchlist is for stocks you haven't bought yet but want to track. For each one, enter the code, name, and a one-line reason for watching, up to 10 stocks. That one line matters: every day the briefing lists each watchlist stock's close and % change and brings back the reason you originally wrote.

If you wrote "bullish," then every day the briefing brings back the word "bullish," which doesn't help. Write a price or condition, and each morning you can tell at a glance: has the condition been met? How far is it?

Not usefulUseful
BullishWait for a pullback to 290
AI themeWait for monthly revenue to turn positive year over year
A friend recommended itReconsider once it's back above the 60-day moving average on rising volume
Want to buyRe-evaluate after the earnings call, once RSI is back below 50
It's fallen a lotBelow 250, and foreign investors have stopped net selling

Writing a condition has another benefit: it forces you to decide on your entry reason before you buy, rather than chasing after it rises. If you're not sure what price to use, ask it for an analysis first and use the "watch-to-buy price" and "support zone" from the reply. For how, see Don't Chase: RSI Zones and Support/Resistance Turn Feelings Into Prices. Also, stocks you've asked about in chat are tracked in the briefing even if you haven't added them to a list, marked "You asked about this earlier."

Risk Profile and Preferences: Make the Analysis Written for You

Risk profile: choose the one you can actually live with

There are three risk profiles: Conservative, Balanced, and Aggressive. Pick the one you can "actually tolerate," not the one you wish you were. Here's one way to decide:

OptionSounds like you if...
ConservativeA 10% paper loss keeps you up at night; you mainly hold market-cap-weighted or high-dividend ETFs and mostly buy and hold for the long term
BalancedYou can accept swing pullbacks and are willing to execute at your stop-loss price; your holdings are spread across a few sectors
AggressiveYou can handle bigger swings, your positions are concentrated in growth or theme stocks, and you can pull the trigger on a stop-loss

Your risk profile is part of the background it considers when interpreting data; fill it in close to reality and its reminders will fit your situation. For example, if a conservative investor holds a leveraged ETF (such as a 2x ETF), it will specifically point out that these ETFs track twice the daily return and lose value over long holding periods.

What I care about: one paragraph decides who the analysis is written for

This is a free-text field, and the AI adjusts the angle of its analysis based on what you write. The official example reads:

I prefer swing trading, with a holding period of about 1-3 months. I pay special attention to institutional flows in the AI server supply chain and memory stocks. In the morning briefing, please flag: holdings moving more than 3% in a day, RSI entering the overheated zone, and major news. I don't day trade, and I don't want too much short-term noise.

Four sentences, and each one helps it understand you better:

This sentenceWhat it changes
Prefers swing trading, holding 1–3 monthsAction notes come in short-term, swing, and long-term angles; stating your time frame tells it which one to speak to, so it won't alarm you with a day trader's pace
Focuses on institutional flows in the AI server supply chain and memory stocksSteers the analysis toward the sectors and institutional flows you care about; it has a built-in map of Taiwan's industry chains, and upstream-downstream links in these two sectors are exactly what it looks at when judging sector rotation and concentration risk
Flags daily moves over 3%, overheated RSI, and major newsSpells out the signals you care about most. RSI above 70 is running hot and not a good time to chase, so writing this is like asking it to pull you back when you're most tempted to chase
No day trading, no short-term noiseTells it which information is noise for you, so the analysis fits your trading pace

When writing your own version, one sentence in each of these four areas is enough: your holding period, the sectors or indicators you care about, what you want to be alerted to, and what you don't want to see.

Delivery Time: Pick a Time You'll Actually Read It

You can choose 07:00, 07:30, 08:00, 08:30 (default), 09:00, 09:30, 11:00, 13:45, 17:00, or 20:00 for the morning briefing, which is only sent on trading days (Monday through Friday). You can also turn the daily briefing off entirely; when it's off, you can still ask questions in Telegram any time. There's only one rule for choosing: pick a time when you're reliably free every day and will read it from top to bottom.

Time slotBest for
Pre-market 07:00–08:30Reading before you leave home or on your commute. At 08:30 there's still half an hour before the 09:00 open, enough time to decide whether to place orders today. Suits most people with day jobs
After the open 09:00, 09:30People who handle family matters first in the morning, or only have time once they're settled at the office
Midday 11:00People tied up in meetings or classes all morning who are only free before lunch
After the close 13:45People who want to review the day and plan the next right after the close, such as those with flexible work hours
After the close 17:00Catching up on the whole day's market on your commute home
Evening 20:00People who like to sit down and do their homework in the evening and have a plan set before the next open

Intraday alerts are separate: holdings are checked at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00, independent of the briefing's delivery time.

Link Telegram and Confirm Your First Morning Briefing

Five steps to pair

Morning briefings, intraday alerts, and your questions all go through a dedicated Telegram bot. Once your bot is ready, a "Link your Telegram" section appears in the dashboard. Follow it:

  1. Click your dedicated bot's link in the dashboard (the handle starting with @) to open the chat in Telegram.
  2. Send /start to the bot in Telegram.
  3. The bot replies with a pairing code, such as AB3D-92KF.
  4. Back in the dashboard, paste the pairing code into the field and click "Link it."
  5. When the dashboard shows "Telegram linked," you're done.

The most common snag: you must send /start first. Telegram's rule is that bots can't initiate private messages with people who haven't interacted with them, so until you send /start, the bot won't reply with a pairing code. If pairing fails, just send /start again to get a new pairing code; codes expire, so don't keep pasting an old one.

The pairing code is what links your Telegram account to your subscription, so don't paste it into group chats or share it with anyone unrelated. Once you're linked, make sure the "Morning briefing" switch in the dashboard is on; it can only be turned on after you link Telegram.

Let family members receive it too: link another account

You can link multiple Telegram accounts; the most common use is having family members receive the same holdings tracking. Here's how: in the dashboard, click "+ Link another Telegram account," have your family member send /start to the same bot from their own Telegram account to get a pairing code, paste it into that field, and click "Link it." From then on, briefings, charts, and messages go to every linked account.

Setup is only done once the first briefing arrives

After changing all the fields, remember to click "Save and apply," and your next briefing will be sent with your new settings. On the next trading day, keep an eye on Telegram at the time you chose. The briefing's order is fixed: last night's U.S. stocks, the TAIEX futures night session, the Taiwan market, your holdings, your watchlist, news, market sentiment, today's action notes, risk reminders, and finally the disclaimer.

Once it arrives, spend a minute checking two things: whether each holding's P&L % is close to what your broker app shows, and whether each watchlist stock shows the reason you wrote. If something doesn't match, go back to the dashboard and fix it.

If it doesn't arrive, check in order: is today a trading day (no briefings on holidays), does the dashboard show "Telegram linked," is the daily briefing switch on, and have you ever blocked or deleted the bot chat in Telegram? For more troubleshooting, see the Stock Helper FAQ.

Day to Day: Tell It About Trades and Stop-Losses in Telegram

Once setup is done, most updates don't require going back to the dashboard:

  • Tell it when you trade: send messages about completed trades, such as "Added one lot of Stock A at 131" or "Sold one lot of Stock B at 186." It records them, and your holdings list updates automatically within about 10 minutes. Merely saying "want to buy" or "thinking about adding" isn't treated as a trade; if the price or quantity is unclear, it will first ask, "How many lots, and at what price?"
  • State a stop-loss price once: for example, "If Stock C breaks 180, I'm cutting it." Stop-loss prices and levels you mention are remembered and take top priority among intraday alert triggers; if the price gets there, it alerts you with your cost and unrealized loss.
  • Ask whenever you want an analysis: say "Take a look at Stock A for me" and you'll get a full analysis. It records the conclusion and key price levels in its investment notes, and if a later conclusion changes, it explains why.

For stop-loss alert triggers and how to read them, see Stop-Loss Discipline: How Intraday Alerts Warn You Before Losses Grow. For how it remembers what you've said, see It Remembers What It Said.

FAQ

Q: Should I subtract dividends I've received from my average cost?

No. Enter the original cost you actually paid; P&L is always calculated from that cost. If a reply also shows a return including dividends, it lists the two numbers separately rather than blending them into one.

Q: What if I want to track more than 10 stocks?

The holdings list and watchlist each take up to 10 stocks. Save those spots for stocks you'll actually make decisions on; for others you check on occasionally, just ask in Telegram, and stocks you've asked about are tracked in the briefing too.

Q: When do setting changes take effect?

After you click "Save and apply," your next briefing uses the new settings. Trade records don't require changing settings at all: tell it in Telegram and your holdings list updates in about 10 minutes.

Q: Do I need to re-link if I switch phones?

Not if your Telegram account stays the same. The link is tied to your account, not your device.
