You just want to add one small feature to your site: a notification when a new post goes up, a booking button on the homepage, a line of text that shows up outside business hours. You search online and find two dozen plugins. Some do so much that you’d never use 90% of it, and they slow your site down. Some lock the feature you need behind an annual fee. And when you finally get one installed, it clashes with a plugin you already have and breaks your layout.

What about hiring a developer for something custom? First a quote, then a spot in their schedule. One small feature can take a week or two and cost more than a year of plugin fees. For needs like this, too small to justify a development project but too big to handle yourself, you can now just tell Roamer AI what you want.

The 30-Second Overview

What you want to knowThe short answer
How Roamer AI adds featuresWhen there’s no suitable plugin, it writes a code snippet or custom styles (CSS) and adds them directly
What you doDescribe what you need, review the plan it lays out, then say yes
What it’s good forSmall features like notifications, buttons, logged-in-only content, price calculations, standard notices, style tweaks and time-based messages
What if it breaks somethingEvery change is logged and can be disabled or undone; if a code snippet causes errors, the rescue process can disable it
How you know it’s done rightIt automatically screenshots the desktop and mobile layouts to check them
What it’s not forLarge custom builds like full membership systems, ERP integrations or complex payment flows; for those, we recommend Roamer Tech

Why Can’t You Ever Find a Plugin That’s Just Right?

Plugins are built for lots of people, so they often either do too much or can’t do the one thing you need. When you want to add a small feature, you usually have three options:

ApproachUpsideDownside
Find an existing pluginInstall it and it works; someone keeps maintaining itBloated features that slow your site, key features behind an annual fee, conflicts with other plugins, no updates once the license expires
Hire a developer for custom workBuilt exactly the way you wantQuotes and scheduling, a fee even for small features, and you have to find someone again for every change
Ask Roamer AI to write a code snippetDoes only the one thing you need, added just by asking, and can be disabled or undone anytimeBest for small features; you need to explain clearly what you want, and it’s not suited to large systems

If an existing plugin happens to fit, you can also ask it to find and install one for you (activating a plugin is a high-risk action, so it asks for your confirmation first). But a lot of the time, what you need is a small piece of code, not an entire plugin.

How Does Roamer AI Add Features for You?

Roamer AI logs straight into your WordPress and does the work. It usually takes one of two approaches:

  • Code snippets: a small piece of code that does one thing, like “send a notification when a post is published” or “show a line of text in a certain spot on product pages.” It isn’t a whole plugin, so it doesn’t add a pile of new menus to your admin.
  • Custom styles (CSS): changes only how things look, not how they work, like the colors, font size or spacing of one section.

The process is the same as everything else Roamer AI does:

  1. You describe what you need.
  2. It lays out a plan first: how it will do it and which parts of your site it will touch.
  3. It only starts once you confirm.
  4. When it’s done, it automatically takes screenshots and checks the desktop (1366 px wide) and mobile (390 px wide) layouts itself.
  5. It reports back. If you’re not happy, say “change it back.”

Seven Common Scenarios: What to Say, What It Does, What to Watch For

Scenario 1: Get a LINE notification whenever a post is published

  • You just say: “Add a feature: when a new post is published on the site, automatically send me a LINE notification with the post title and link.”
  • What it does: writes a code snippet that sends a LINE message the moment a post is published. Once it’s done, you can ask it to try it with a test post to make sure you actually receive it.
  • What to watch for: sending LINE messages usually requires a LINE Official Account and an integration key from the LINE admin console. Signing up for the account and logging in to the LINE console is a step you have to do yourself; the AI can only work on your WordPress. Also be clear about whether you want notifications only for new posts or for edits too, or you might get a message every time you fix a typo.

Scenario 2: Add a booking button to the homepage

  • You just say: “Add a ‘Book Now’ button below the homepage banner that opens our online booking link (the URL is …). On mobile, keep it pinned to the bottom of the screen.”
  • What it does: adds the button where you asked, matches your site’s existing colors, and sends you desktop and mobile screenshots when it’s done.
  • What to watch for: the button only takes customers to your booking page. If what you need is a full booking system (picking dates and time slots, capping capacity, sending automatic confirmations), that’s a different kind of project and usually calls for a dedicated booking plugin or service.

Scenario 3: Content only logged-in members can see

  • You just say: “Make the content on the ‘Members Area’ page visible only to logged-in users. Anyone not logged in should just see a short explanation and a login button.”
  • What it does: uses a code snippet to set the display conditions for that page, and can also create user accounts for you if needed.
  • What to watch for: this is “visible when logged in,” not a paid membership system. Collecting membership fees, member tiers and automatically cutting off expired members all count as large custom work. When it’s done, check the page both logged in and logged out (in a private browser window). If your site uses a caching plugin, make extra sure that people who aren’t logged in really can’t see the content.

Scenario 4: Automatic pricing based on quantity

  • You just say: “Give 10% off when someone buys 3 or more of a product, and 20% off for 10 or more. The cart should calculate it automatically, and the product page should mention the discount.”
  • What it does: adds a quantity-based pricing rule to the WooCommerce cart and a note about the discount on product pages.
  • What to watch for: pricing rules most often go wrong when they stack with other discounts. Decide up front whether coupons, member pricing and free shipping thresholds should combine with it. When it’s done, always add items to the cart to test the math, then place a small test order to confirm the amount charged at payment is correct.

Scenario 5: Add a shipping note to every product page

  • You just say: “Below the ‘Add to Cart’ button on every product page, add a shipping note: free shipping on orders over NT$1,500, ships within 3 business days of ordering.”
  • What it does: uses a code snippet so every product page shows the text in the same spot. No pasting it into products one by one, and new products you add later will show it automatically.
  • What to watch for: if your policy changes, just say “change the shipping note to …” and every product page updates at once. The text is only an explanation for customers. The actual shipping calculation has to be changed in your store settings too, so the two don’t contradict each other.

Scenario 6: Change the colors, fonts or spacing of one section

  • You just say: “In the ‘Latest News’ section on the homepage, make the headings dark blue and a bit bigger, add a little more space between posts, and make sure it’s easy to read on mobile.”
  • What it does: writes custom CSS that changes only the section you named, then sends desktop and mobile screenshots so you can compare.
  • What to watch for: be as specific as you can about which section on which page. The narrower the scope, the less likely it is to affect anything else. If you want to change colors across the whole site, updating your site’s design palette (brand colors) usually gives a more consistent result than changing sections one at a time.

Scenario 7: Show a notice in the header outside business hours

  • You just say: “Outside of 9:00 to 18:00, Monday through Friday, show a line at the very top of the site: ‘We’re currently closed. Leave us a message and we’ll reply the next business day.’”
  • What it does: writes a code snippet that decides whether to show the notice based on the time, styled to match your site header.
  • What to watch for: be clear that it’s Taiwan time, and whether national holidays and lunch breaks count. On sites with caching turned on, content that changes with the time is more prone to delays or showing the wrong thing, so check it once during business hours and once outside them.

What If a Feature You Added Causes Problems?

The scariest part of copying code from the internet into your site is not knowing how to get it out when something breaks. Features Roamer AI adds come with these safeguards:

  • Every change is logged: you can see what it added and where it made changes. Say “disable the LINE notification you just added” or “change it back,” and it rolls back.
  • Automatic snapshots before changes: it automatically creates a snapshot before writing anything (at most one every 10 minutes, keeping the latest 5).
  • Rescue can disable it when something breaks: if a code snippet causes errors, even to the point that you can’t get into the admin, the rescue process can disable it while the site is broken. Every rescue action asks for your confirmation first. See the emergency rescue process.
  • Screenshot checks when it’s done: it reports back only after looking at both the desktop and mobile layouts, instead of just saying “done” on instinct.

That’s also why code snippets are the recommended way to add features instead of editing theme files directly. A code snippet is a separate piece that can be disabled on its own if it causes trouble. Edit a theme file directly, and the next theme update overwrites your changes, and when something goes wrong it’s hard to pull out just that one piece.

Which Requests Fit the AI, and Which Need a Developer?

Good fit for Roamer AIBetter to hire a developer
Single, well-defined small features: notifications, buttons, notices, informational textFull membership systems: fees, tiers, expiration management
Visual tweaks: colors, fonts, spacingIntegrations with company systems like ERP, POS or inventory management
Simple pricing rulesComplex payment flows: installments, recurring billing, multiple currencies
Content shown in a fixed spotLarge custom plugins, rebuilding an old site

Here’s an easy way to tell: if you can explain what you want in two or three sentences, and disabling it would fix things if it went wrong, it’s usually a good fit for Roamer AI. If the request involves how money is calculated, how data syncs with other systems, or a whole process that needs long-term maintenance, someone needs to work in the code and test it thoroughly. That’s when to reach out to Roamer Tech (link at the end of this article).

How Do You Ask So It Gets It Right the First Time?

  • Say where: which page, which section, above or below the button.
  • Say when and for whom: when it should appear, who should see it, whether mobile should be the same.
  • Give the actual content: the text to show, the URL to link to, the color you want.
  • Agree on what “done” means: for example, “When you’re done, test it with a post. I want to get the LINE message.”
  • Review the plan before saying yes: if the plan doesn’t match what you had in mind, say so before it starts.

If you can’t put it into words, that’s fine too. Just describe the problem you want to solve, like “customers often leave messages late at night and we don’t see them until the next day,” and it can suggest a few approaches for you to choose from.

Which Sites and Plans Can Use This?

The features in this article are based on sites hosted on RoamerHost. An external WordPress site that isn’t on RoamerHost can connect to Roamer AI with Application Passwords for everyday work like content, menus, plugins, SEO and products, but the safety nets (snapshots and restores, emergency rescue, layout editing) are only available on hosted sites. For changes that affect how your site runs, we recommend making them on a hosted site with snapshots and rescue behind you. If your site isn’t on RoamerHost yet, WP × Roamer AI Pro includes help migrating your existing site: contact [email protected] and we’ll help you move it over.

WP × Roamer AI Pro is NT$11,988 a year (avg. NT$999/mo, billed yearly) and combines hosting, a WordPress site and full Roamer AI access in one. FAQ

Q: Will code snippets slow down my site?

A code snippet that does one thing is usually lighter than installing an entire plugin. If you’re concerned, ask it to run a site health report afterward and see whether your homepage response time has changed.

Q: I can’t read code. How do I know what it added?

Just ask, “What did you just add, and what did you change?” and it explains in plain language. Every change is logged, and you can also ask it for a before-and-after comparison.

Q: What if the result isn’t what I had in mind?

Tell it what’s off, like “the button is too big” or “the notice should only show on weekdays,” and it adjusts. If you want to start over, say “change it back.”

Q: Do I pay extra to add features?

Pro already includes full Roamer AI access, so there’s no extra charge for adding features. Running out of Roamer AI allowance never triggers an extra charge and never affects your site.

Q: What if my request is too big for Roamer AI?

Requests like large membership systems, ERP integrations and complex payment flows need proper planning and testing, and we recommend having Roamer Tech assess them. If you hit a problem the AI can’t solve, you can also say “get me a person,” and it will notify a RoamerHost engineer.
