It's Friday afternoon and you notice the opening hours on your website are still last year's. You message the developer who built the site: "Could you update our opening hours?" The reply: "Sure, that counts as a small edit. I'll send you a quote first, and I can get to it by next Tuesday." You look at the quote and the date and feel a little annoyed. It's one line of text.

A single edit doesn't seem expensive, but website edits never come just once. This article breaks down the real cost of a small edit, compares three common approaches, and lists which edits you can now simply hand to an AI and which still need a developer.

30-Second Overview

What you want to knowThe short answer
The real cost of a small editIt's not just the quote. It's also the wait, the back-and-forth, redoing mistakes, and what you lose when content goes live late
Pay per jobQuotes commonly range from a few hundred to a few thousand NT dollars per job, and every job waits in line
Annual maintenance contractCommonly tens of thousands of NT dollars a year; what's covered and how fast it's handled depend on the contract

What you can hand to the AIText changes, image swaps, new products, price changes, new pages, menu changes, SEO, finding outdated info across the site
What still needs a developerLarge custom plugins, integrations with company systems, full rebuilds of old sites

What Does a "Small Edit" Actually Cost You?

The quote shows one number, but you're actually paying in at least four ways.

Money

For pay-per-job edits, quotes commonly range from a few hundred to a few thousand NT dollars per job, depending on the change and how the developer charges. One edit isn't much, but everything a shop needs to change in a year (opening hours, promotions, prices, new products, announcements, staff changes) often adds up to 15 or 20 edits. Small amounts add up to a surprising total.

Waiting

Freelance developers are usually juggling several projects, so small edits wait in line and often don't get done for a few days. A promotion you wanted live today might not show up until next week, and wrong information you wanted gone tomorrow might stay up for several more days.

Communication

"It's the second paragraph on the homepage, not the one above it." "Make the text a bit bigger." "The phone number is missing a digit." With small edits, the time sink usually isn't the edit itself. It's explaining exactly what needs to change. Screenshots, red boxes, back-and-forth confirmations, and another round when something gets changed wrong. A five-minute job can cost you half an hour of communication.

Opportunity Cost

This is the easiest one to overlook and the most expensive. If your anniversary sale page goes live three days late, you lose three days of sales. If a wrong price stays up for a week, you either lose money or have to explain it to customers who ordered. If your opening hours aren't updated, a customer shows up to a closed shop and doesn't come back. None of these losses appear on any quote, but they're real.

And because every edit costs money and time, a lot of people eventually stop making them. The site stays frozen the way it was on launch day and slowly becomes a place nobody trusts.

Three Common Approaches, Side by Side

Small and midsize businesses in Taiwan most often handle website edits one of the first two ways. The third is handing small edits to an AI.

Best forOnly two or three edits a year, simple needsYou need a dedicated contact and have more custom workFrequent small edits, and you want to control when things go live

The pay-per-job and annual contract figures in this table are broad ranges commonly seen in the market. Actual quotes vary a lot from provider to provider, so go by the quotes you actually receive.

Which Edits Can You Simply Hand to the AI?

These are the small edits shops and studios run into most, and every one of them is something Roamer AI can go into your site and do directly. On the left is what you'd say; on the right is what it does:

Just sayWhat it does
"Change our opening hours to Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–20:00, closed Mondays."Finds where the opening hours are written and changes only that text
"Swap the homepage banner for an image of our new fall products, and change the text to 'Fall limited edition, available in October.'"Replaces the homepage hero image and text; if there's no suitable image, it can generate a lifestyle image with AI or find one in a free stock library
"Add a new product: Osmanthus Oolong Tea Gift Box, NT$680, in the 'Gift Boxes' category."Creates the product in WooCommerce and sets the price and category
"Change the price of 'Classic House Blend' from 450 to 480."Updates the WooCommerce product price
"Add an anniversary sale page with the event details, the offer, and a sign-up form, and add it to the menu."Creates the page, writes the content, builds the form, and adds the page to the navigation menu
"Move 'Latest News' to the end of the menu and add an 'FAQ' item."Updates the navigation menu
"Change the phone number 02-2345-6789 to 02-2345-0000 everywhere on the site."Searches the whole site for the old number, shows you the list, and changes each one once you confirm
"Add three questions to the FAQ page: How is shipping calculated? Can I return an item? How soon do orders ship?"Adds content to the existing page
"Go through the SEO title and description on every page and fill in any that are missing."Sets the SEO title and description page by page
"We've moved. Find every place on the site that shows our old address and change it to the new one."Searches all text on the site, finds every instance of the old address, and updates it
"Put up our new logo and change the brand colors to navy and gold."Replaces the site logo and adjusts the design color palette
"Make a contact form and put it on the 'Contact Us' page."Builds a contact form and adds it to the page
"Take down last year's Mid-Autumn Festival promo post."Unpublishes the specified post
"Set up an admin account for our new coworker."Creates a WordPress user account

Every item follows the same process: it lists a plan for you to approve, does the work, automatically captures desktop and mobile screenshots to check the layout, and reports back. If you're not happy, say "change it back" and it rolls back. If your site isn't on RoamerHost, content, product, SEO, and menu edits all work; changes that involve layout, like swapping a banner, need a site hosted on RoamerHost.

What Still Needs a Developer?

Roamer AI can do more than most people expect. When there's no suitable plugin, it can write a code snippet to add the feature itself, such as sending a LINE notification when a post is published, a booking button, members-only content, or automatic price calculation (see Can’t Find the Right Plugin? Just Ask the AI to Build It).

But some needs go beyond what plugins and code snippets can handle:

  • Large custom plugins: for example, a complete custom booking, membership, or quoting system
  • Integrations with company systems: for example, syncing data with your internal inventory, order, or accounting system
  • Full rebuilds of old sites: where the structure, data, and features all need to be rethought

Work like this needs a developer to plan, build, and test it; see "Want someone to build it for you?" at the end of this article. A simple rule of thumb: if you can describe what you need in a sentence or two and the result is something you can see (a text change, an image swap, a new page), give it to the AI first. If it needs meetings to work out the specs or involves other systems, bring in a developer.

Do the Math for a Year: What Do 20 Small Edits Cost?

Say a small shop makes 20 small edits a year, roughly one or two a month: new promotions, price changes, new products, updated announcements. Here's roughly how the three approaches compare (illustrative only; actual figures depend on the quotes and contracts you get):

ItemPay per jobAnnual maintenance contractWP × Roamer AI Pro
Cost of 20 editsAt a few hundred to a few thousand NT dollars each, roughly several thousand to tens of thousands of NT dollars a yearCommonly tens of thousands of NT dollars a yearIncluded in the NT$11,988 yearly fee
HostingExtraDepends on the contractIncluded
Wait per editOften a few days in linePer the contractHandled during the conversation
Total waiting over a year20 edits × a few days could add up to more than a monthPer the contractPractically no time waiting in line
Redoing a mistakeBack in lineBack in lineSay "change it back"

Two things to be clear about. First, Roamer AI usage has a quota; if you use it up, you won't be charged extra and your site keeps running. Second, besides small edits, NT$11,988 also covers hosting, a WordPress site, and, on hosted sites, plugin updates in batches and emergency rescue. With pay-per-job, each of those means finding someone separately and paying separately.

In other words, if you only make two or three edits a year, paying per job may be enough. If you have something to change every month, or you're always stuck waiting on someone, the difference from handing small edits to an AI becomes obvious. And it's not just about money: when edits are easy, you actually make them, and your site stays up to date.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Compare the Pro and Basic plans on the pricing section, or request a free trial first: after you submit your request, someone from our team will contact you and set up a trial environment. If you want to try Roamer AI, say so in the request field.
  2. About 60 seconds after payment, the latest WordPress is installed automatically. Connect your site with one click on the Roamer AI page of your dashboard.
  3. Tell it about the small edit you've been putting off the longest.
Just say: "Change the opening hours on the homepage to Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–20:00, closed Mondays, and show me a screenshot when you're done."

It also works if your site isn't on RoamerHost: external WordPress sites can connect with WordPress's built-in Application Passwords for day-to-day edits to content, menus, plugins, SEO, and products. Full site builds and layout editing, snapshots and restores, emergency rescue, and batch updates are only available on sites hosted on RoamerHost.

FAQ

Q: What do small website edits usually cost?

Quotes commonly range from a few hundred to a few thousand NT dollars per job, depending on the change and how the provider charges. Annual maintenance contracts commonly run tens of thousands of NT dollars a year. Prices vary widely, so go by the quotes you actually receive.

Q: Will the AI make mistakes when editing my site?

It can, which is why there are several safeguards. It lists a plan for your approval before doing anything, automatically checks desktop and mobile screenshots after each change, and rolls back when you say "change it back." On sites hosted on RoamerHost, it also takes an automatic snapshot before every change, and high-risk actions only run after you personally click a confirmation code.

Q: I already have a maintenance contract. Do I still need Roamer AI?

It depends on the contract. If it mainly covers day-to-day small edits, you can hand that part to Roamer AI and control your own timing. If it includes large custom development or system integrations, you'll still need a developer for that part.

Q: Can I use the Basic plan for small edits?

Roamer AI on the Basic plan is limited to a basic trial of 3 conversations per month, which is good for trying it out. If you make small edits often, the Pro plan is the better fit. You can upgrade from Basic with one click in your dashboard at any time, and it takes effect as soon as payment goes through.
